New Season, New Show

Basketball is here

Today was the first official day of winter sports practice, which can only mean that the basketball season is right around the corner. The season preview episode of "The Opening Tip" will be broadcast sometime this week, and will feature a discussion with Head Coach Josh Herscher, as well as a breakdown of Venice's roster.

High School Sports Broadcasting

We've been working very hard to get high school sports teams signed up to broadcast their sports on YouCastr.com. It's definitely a great deal for them, because they get access to a much larger audience for free. Students, we need you to help get your school involved. Ask the principal if you can broadcast a sports game. Involve them at the start, and it will allow them to make sure that they are comfortable with the service and be able to monitor the content. The school's image is important to them, so give them that courtesy to know who is talking about their teams. Here's how a principal or athletic director (or even a student) can get started broadcasting their high school games in four easy steps:

1. FIND A BROADCASTER

Broadcasting or Journalism clubs are probably the best place to find student broadcasters. Faculty can often pinpoint interested potential candidates within the student body. Or, the athletic directors have excellent insight and thoughts on which athletes might be able to broadcast high school sports in their off season. Alumni, parents, or friends of the school also make great potential broadcasters, because it allows them to be an active part of the school community.

2. LEARN MORE ABOUT YOUCASTR

2. Go to www.youcastr.com, sign up, and update the high school’s page on YouCastr. At the bottom of the homepage, you can learn more about the company, find out how the site works, and find FAQs on common problems.

3. BROADCAST THE FIRST HIGH SCHOOL SPORTS GAME!

All you need is a mic, and computer, and the internet. USB mics are often the most effective solutions to broadcasting, but you can use a normal mic with your computer’s built in soundcard. The cord goes from the mic and ends in a 1/8” male plug which you plug into your computer, just like the headphones in your iPod or Walkman.

Both Macs and PCs work with YouCastr, and there is no software to download. Your computer comes loaded with the Flash player, so everything is already installed for you.

PROMOTE AND GET THE HIGH SCHOOL SPORTS COMMUNITY INVOLVED

Once you have found a broadcaster, let the school community know. Communication with students happens through the daily announcements, through teachers, and through high school publications. Parents also learn about high school events through their children, and through official school communications. Alumni are best contacted by the alumni office, and many of them have grandchildren in school and actively want to be part of their success in school. Athletic directors have contacts with the local media—even better for promotion!

High Quality High School Football

This Friday falconcastr was broadcasting their high school sports on YouCastr. They love the sports chat and all the interactive features. When their previous streaming service failed, they needed a quick solution, and the opportunity for live sports broadcasting on YouCastr was the quick and easy answer. Weeks later, the Lake Dallas High School football fans and the program couldn't be happier with the results.

Phsfootball has also been doing their online streaming for Paulding High School football on YouCastr. Their live online broadcasting has been a success. Maybe they'll start some sports forums to talk about what a hit it's been soon.

Dmath does live broadcasting of Michigan High School football on YouCastr. Their fans enjoy the live broadcasting, and YouCastr is able to supply that for them.
